Michael Zev Gordon – New work for piano (World Premiere)
Michael Zev Gordon’s music is contemplative, expressive and accessible. This recital centres around his celebrated work On Memory, where fragments of Bach, Couperin, Ravel, Bill Evans, Klezmer, and popular songs such as Moon River, are ‘remembered’ to create a fascinating patchwork expressing various aspects of memory and our perception of it. The concert will end with the World Premiere of a joint commission by the Ryedale Festival and Help Musicians UK, formerly the Musicians’ Benevolent Fund – a new work for piano by Michael Zev Gordon, introduced by the composer.
The ticket for this event includes the pre-concert discussion.
‘Memory works in myriad ways: an event of years ago, seemingly forgotten, is provoked by something in the present to return, in the imagination, with full force and keenness; another may be slowly, hazily groped towards; still another may come as part of a chain of associations, rising up when given room to do so’ – Michael Zev Gordon
