These are the sounds of public squares, private houses and public entertainments of Venice in the late 16th century, where the madrigal flourished as never before or since, as Venetian composers set out to evoke in music the rich variety of life around them. Their works are richly characterised and exuberantly varied – with pieces of great lightness and charm sitting alongside laments for the death of friends, passionate love scenes and bawdy comedy. The Fieri Consort was set up by a number of singers who trained on The Sixteen’s prestigious young artists programme Genesis Sixteen who are rapidly building a reputation for their vibrant and committed performances.

‘They sang Monteverdi...and it knocked my socks off. They might have been young but they are very special indeed’ – Jessica Shepherd
